Module 4

Manage your cloud security posture management

Focus: secure score, recommendations, regulatory compliance, Azure Policy, and security workbooks.

01 / 07Introduction

Cloud security posture management continuously identifies configuration risk and turns it into prioritized, measurable improvement. The central views are secure score, recommendations, compliance, and workbooks.

02 / 07Explore Secure Score

Secure score summarizes how well an environment satisfies Defender for Cloud recommendations. Recommendations are grouped into security controls. A control awards its available points only when every applicable recommendation for a resource is satisfied.

Use score impact, affected resources, threat context, and remediation effort together when prioritizing. A higher score means lower identified configuration risk, but it is not proof that the environment is breach-free.

03 / 07Explore Recommendations

Recommendations evaluate resources against the Microsoft Cloud Security Benchmark and assigned policy or compliance initiatives. Findings can be healthy, unhealthy, or not applicable. Related recommendations can be prerequisites, alternatives, or dependencies.

Open a recommendation to understand rationale, affected resources, remediation steps, and exemptions. Where available, Fix supports bulk remediation after you review the impact.

Exam takeaway: recommendations are actionable assessments; secure score is their aggregated measurement.

04 / 07Measure and enforce regulatory compliance

Compliance standards are represented as Azure Policy initiatives assigned to a management group or subscription. The dashboard maps resource assessments to controls and shows passing and failing requirements. The Microsoft Cloud Security Benchmark is the default standard; additional standards require appropriate enhanced capabilities.

  1. Assign the initiative at the correct scope.
  2. Wait for policy evaluation.
  3. Review failing controls and underlying assessments.
  4. Remediate, exempt with governance, and export evidence where needed.

05 / 07Understand Workbooks

Azure Monitor workbooks turn security data into interactive reports. Built-in Defender for Cloud examples include Secure Score over Time, System Updates, Vulnerability Assessment Findings, Compliance Over Time, and Active Alerts. Customize or clone a workbook for operational reporting without altering the source data.
